Broken Hood Scoop

While washing the Mini a couple of weeks ago, I noticed the top passenger side of the hood scoop was loose.

So after finishing the wash, I opened the hood to check the tightness of the screws and bolts.

They were all tight yet I could lift the top corner.

After removing the screws and two nuts, I found that removing the scoop left the bolt in place in the upper passenger side corner.

As it is, the plastic bracket that is molded into the scoop to hold the bolt has very thin sides to it, which have broken off.

I cleaned the area where the bracket was attached to the bottom of the scoop and cleaned the bracket. I then positioned the bracket to the scoop and using plastic weld, attached the two back together. This seemed to work fine for a couple of weeks but now I see that it's seperated once more.

Has anyone had this problem and found a repair that held up?

Purchasing a new scoop is not an option as I will not let one small bracket beat me.

Double sided sticky foam strips approximately 1/16'' thick by 1/2" wide baught at the local hardware store will stick this puppy in place forever. A word of caution, try dry fitting hood scoop in place several times before pulling off the final bits of wax paper. This fix should cost less then two bucks

Crazy glue and baking soda. Glue the stud back on and then build up the base of the stud with crazy glue and baking soda. 48,000 miles and still holding.

Sounds like a solution. I used 2 sided tape to hang something on my wall. When I had to take it down, it took a huge chunck of wall with it.

Are the mounts on the CF one better or stronger??? I've been considering "upgrading" to one of those

Let's face it...

the stock design sucks. I've had a broken one that I fixed with double sided tape, and by gluing in and building up the stock stud mount with epoxy. It worked ok, but it sounds like the krazy glue and baking soda may be better.

Matt

ps I'd never heard of that one. Do you have to use baking soda or will any powerder work? We've got a little one so we have lots of baby powerder around.....

Thanks to all of you for the ideas and the offer to purchase one.

I think the double stick tape idea is worth looking into.

instead of baking powder with your crazy glue, the lint from your dryer works great too. it gets hard as hell.
