No A/C, HVAC flap stuck?

It seemed as though my A/C stopped working this past week as I could not get anything but hot air from the HVAC. I made sure the compressor is turning on, and it is. And I had the A/C recharged today (it was only half charged) but that did not fix the problem.
The local shop agreed with me that it is probably the heat/AC flap in the HVAC unit that is stuck in the heat position and thus not allowing anything but hot air. Like, if it is on 60 degrees and vent (no ac) and its 70 outside, I still get 85+ degree "heat" from the vents. So the HVAC is always blowing out air that is hotter than ambient temps...

Has anyone else experienced this? Ideas on fixing? Anyone know where that flap is located and how to access it?

I plan on calling the dealer tomorrow to see what they say about cost as I am out of warranty now. I searched and found no answers. Thanks!

After calling around some, I think it is the HVAC Temperature Control Actuator. Its the actuator that moves the flap/valve from heat to AC ducting.

Can someone with a SHOP MANUAL tell me where this is located in the car and how hard it is to get to? I plan on buying a manual soon as my MINI is now out of warranty... :(

Turns out is was the little plastic tube that brings air into the glove box. It had somehow got jamed into the temp control flap and prevented it from opening. So now it is all fixed and I am glad it wasnt some expensive repair.

great thread

Thanks for posting this npartist!
My car has the exact same symptoms and it funny as i only noticed it during the only hot day this past week. At 16c (coldest setting) it was still blowing hot air which was killer that day...

The car is at the dealer as we speak. I mentioned the HVAC temp control actuator and he dismissed it immediately. The tech feels my a/c needs to be recharged although my car has only 54k kms...

Hopefully they sort out this mess. I'll post up once a fix has been found. I made clear that i'm not paying for the a/c charging if it doesn't work.

No heat

Here is a picture of my Temp Control Flap actuator in an 04 Mini with auto temp controls. As shown, it is in the heat position. I can't get any heat. I bled the cooling system from the front and heater core output hose. The fans are working fine. The blend door actuator in the attached photo changes position when I put it all the way to low/cold (it's 20 degrees outside). I still have not figured out why I'm not getting heat.

Check out Real OEM. You will need to enter model and year of car. There will be part templates that you are able to bring up. Find the item, go over to the number and then find the number on the PDF.
