Wierd pump/motor/something sound when car is off

Have you noticed that? when you turn the car off there is a noise like a pump or a small electric motor reving up even if the car has been sitting there overnight it still does that, where if will dim the dome lights when it starts up?

That sounds like the power steering pump is draining the battery down. The power steering pump has it's own brain inside the main pump under the vehicle, and your hearing the effects of the brain of the pump failing. Sound like you'll need to replace the power steering pump very soon... before the pump takes a toll on the battery... Prompting the replacement of the battery too.

Mine did that and it was the power steering pump. I'm surprised it doesn't kill the battery in a matter of hours. A service tech told me that it is a BAD situation and that it generates a LOT of heat. Disconnect your battery when parking your car and get it to the shop ASAP!

There's a big thread on here about MINIs burning to the ground because of bad power steering pumps. Don't be a statistic!

Mine is an 2002 also, my steering pump is very loud compared to other MINI's, the only noise I hear after I shut the car is a fan like sound that stays on after I shut the car off..(usually happens when I have been parked or idle with the engine running) I usually have to turn the car off and on a couple of times, then it shuts off.
I fear mine will be taking a crap soon
I have a buddy with a 2002 MCS just like mine repair his....(I think it was about a $600 to $700 repair at an independant shop)

here is a pic of the reservoir that moves when that noise happens...
Is this the power steering fluid container?
