This is weird
I unlocked my MCS got in and started it. I got out while it warmed up a bit and popped the bonnet to have a look because the check engine light came on this morning.
I closed the bonnet and went to get in and the door was locked. So now the MINI is sitting in the lot running with the freaking doors locked.
Has anyone ever had their MINI just lock it’s self?
I’m pretty sure I didn’t lock it getting out because the stupid electric door lock stopped working awhile ago.
I have to unlock it with the key and you can’t just push the door lock button down anymore.
Is this just me?
Well at least I could get back in the office to whine on here while waiting for my spare key to be delivered.
21 degrees with steady 10-15 MPH wind sucks, did I mention I hate winter.

Maybe it was mad at you for looking under it's bonnet while it's getting warmed up.
Seriously though, I know there is an auto-lock feature, but my understanding is that it isn't supposed to activate when the car is running. This is a separate feature from the one that locks the doors as you drive away (above 10mph or so). The auto-lock feature is supposed to be in case you forget to lock the car when you leave it.
Personally I had the auto-lock feature disabled on purpose before I took delivery of the car, because I was deathly afraid I'd lock my keys in the car.
Now, I actually DID lock my keys in the car recently, but that was different. I had to load a large rocking chair in the back, so when I approached the locked car, I just hit the tailgate unlock button (instead of the full unlock). When I was loading the chair, I absent-mindedly put my keys down in the boot. Then, when the chair was loaded, I closed the boot... and it promptly locked it again (since the car was never properly unlocked), keys inside. DOH!

Where is this bc-1 located? All the other locks operate from the remote and switches.
If you already have a malfunction, as you described, with the locking system then you should get it looked at. If the car locked you out, which it shouldn't do but can, then the underlying problem should be traceable with simple diagnostics. These cars do have a mind(s) of their own and yours is looking like a certain female astronaut.

Out of warranty.

It's going to have to wait till warmer weather when I can take the door apart and start trouble shooting it. I have been trying to gather as much info as possible about this system before then.
The driver’s door remote locking/unlocking not working is annoying only because I’m spoiled and not worth the expense the dealer would charge.
I'm now carrying the valet key just in case.
Anyone out there with info on the door latch locking mechanism or the bc-1 (body control unit) please jump in here.

Electronically, what is a bc-1 (body control unit # 1) ?
So there must be a bc-2 also?
Are they modular and replaceable like a relay.
Are they dedicated per device, provide multifunction signals to a dedicated device or multiple devices.
I am looking for a description and more info on MINI bc-1 (body control unit) that operates the door lock.
Anyone that knows or has INFO please comment.
Thanks, norm
bc-1 is the body control module it is no differant from your engine module in that only dealership personal should be playing with it and if you put in a new one it has to be coded properly or alot of other wierd things will happen to u such as your key remotes will no longer work. you may get the milage discrepance dot on your cluster nothing good will come of playing with that with out the proper tools

So this is all super secret BMW proprietary stuff
What special tools are you referring to?
There must be some simple diagnostics to test the bc-1 outputs, can you share?
unfortunaly no i can't give out the information bmw does have a site u can subscribe to to get said information, but if u play with the modules in your car with no 16,000 dollar diagnostic tool plus the other tool needed to program it now your gonna have an issue
and no nothing on these car is simple.
