Arg Help! Alta s/c pulley removal!

Well my 15% was spinning around on the s/c shaft. I pulled the pulley off and attempted to remove the back piece. This is where I was 4 hours ago.

I have tried numerous things to get this piece off and now it must come off since it has been buggered up in the process of trying to remove it.

It is about 1/2 way off and is now stuck and will not pull off.

ANY suggestions?

Well, since you can't really take a hammer to it. The only things I can suggest is a little heat to the pulley hub ONLY not the SC shaft. Maybe try a small two or three jaw puller to pull it off.

The hub has threaded bolt holes, right? You can probably use those to help get it off. I'm guessing you have the engine jacked up enough to get at it.

Maybe put it back together somewhat loosely, with longer bolts if necessary, and have a go at it with a pulley puller?

what do you mean it was spinning around?
isn't that what it's supposed to do?
be a bit more specific as i have the same pulley and don't want to have the same problem if there's issues with it...

It sounds to me that the pulley was spinning independently from the SC shaft.

Seen this before. Usually it happens when the pulley was not put on all the way. The supercharger shaft is now useless. Sounds like someone needs a new supercharger.

I got it off, just needed to be more patient with the pulley.

The s/c shaft was fine, I caught it after it had only done it once or twice, nothing a little sand paper couldnt fix.

Hey TampaMCS,

What are you going to replace the Alta pulley with? They have the version 2 which mounts differently, any thoughts on that one?

Thanks

So Tampa...
what made it spin like that?
was it installation error or part design?

I got very lucky. Here is what happened:
About a week ago I swapped a 17% for a 15%. Apparantly the base shifted and I didnt push it back far enough on the shaft. It seemed to be ok for the first few days, then one day while driving when I shifted into second, I heard the s/c start whining, then it sounded like it slowed down - noted the boost dropped to 4-5psi when it was at like 13-14. I thought maybe it was the belt. It did it again so I poped the belt off, when I did, I spun the s/c pulley - that was when I noticed it could spin freely (sorta).

So I replaced the original base off the 17 with the one from the new 15.
