Headlight out - the first thing to go wrong with my MINI

One of my headlights is out. I have a 2005 MCS with Xenons, but it isn't the Xenon that is out, it's the daytime running light/high beam light.

What do I need to do to replace it? What do I need as far as a replacement, and how do I access the light? The manual says go to the dealer; is that necessary?

I am hoping it can be replaced very cheaply and easily..
Thanks!

You need an H7 light; can get as cheap as $10-20 but you get what you pay for may find a $100 bulb to last longer and be brighter if you can afford it.

Here is the how-to but you'll have the lower bulb and things will look slightly different on the top.

Hope this helps let me know if you have any questions. I'll answer themthe best I can.

Can I get the cheaper bulbs at any auto place store? I can't really swing $100 bulbs right now. Thanks for the great pictures.

Yep, any H7 will work. Just make sure you replace both, for equal color/brightness and longevity.

Any H7 at autozone will do, should be able to get 1-2 years from it

If it's a 2005, I presume it is still under warranty and the dealer will replace it for free.

Actually yes if you're under 50k and 4 years they will likely replace them for you, if you're near the dealer it certainly is worth a try.

Yeah don't touch your headlights. Your dealer will likely void your warranty on the pricey Xenons (like they did mine, not that i have any warranty any more) and maybe even try to void your electrical system warranty if they are *******s about it...

Yes, all bulbs inside and out are covered. During the initial 3-year/36K miles, maintenance coverage is really quite complete and even includes the wiper blades.

Whoo hoo! That settle that I guess. Thanks, and I'll remember all this when it is no longer under warranty.
