battey/jump start HELP!!!!

I went out to start the car and the solenoid clicked and then I tried to push it down the hill in 2nd and nothing (engine seemed to turn over) I tried to jump it with cables.... more clicking.... removed the battery and connected strait to the cables with two diferent cars and more clicking... took battery and had it tested ...9.1 volts... battery is now being charged..... I can't figue out why it would not start by pushing or jumping.... any ideas?????? :impatient

I had the exact same issue with my battery. Now I don't know if whether this is accurate or not, but from what the MINI service manager told me after I had my car towed in for the same problem, it has to do with the battery shorting out a component inside preventing it from being jump started. All that is really necessary is to switch to a non-OEM battery and you shouldn't have a problem in the future with jump starting if need be. I apologize for not being able to get into any specifics, but just relaying what I've been told.

Even if you push the car off, you must have enough electrical power in the battery to run the fuel pump and the injectors. At 9.1 volts, you are well below what you need, and the alternator doesn't put out quite enough at idle to compensate for such a weak battery.

I always wondered if you could push start modern cars with a clutch switch. So this is possible as long as you have enough juice in the battery for the fuel pump?
