Err...brake pad warning light just came on...
Was driving in to work today when I noticed the brake pad warning light come on.
But here's the kicker. I'm in an '06 MCSa with fewer than 5,000 miles on it. Seems a bit early for me to have to be replacing pads...or am I mistaken?

I just had all 4 of mine replaced along with rotors brake flush and ABS sensors to the tune of $900 at 25K miles, so don't expect more than that. I don't drive it hard either. The back brakes were down to metal on metal!
Oh, I'm sure it should...just that my dealer's 100 miles away. Figured I'd check on here first to see if my issue is unique or not...
I have 26,000 on the originals and plenty of pad left (just checked at 25,000). As said before on this site, different styles and roads will cause lots of variation.
However, 5,000 is low in any book.

All this should have been covered under warranty! What's up!
I got lucky.
My front brakes went thorugh 6 months before my maintenance expired. My rears went through 3 days before the expiration. In both cases MINI not only gave me new pads, but also Rotors. I think they do that pretty routinely and it runs over $400 per axel.
Of course now that I am off the "included" maintenance, future brake jobs will be by me and Il be sure to change the pads before there is any chance of rotor damage, and even the MINI branded Pads are only around $100.
The OEM pads really took a beating, I am pleased with the life I got out of them, 24,000 miles. I usually get 40,000 to 60,000 out of a set of pads, but then those cars didn't get the monthly excercise that the MCS got.
