Sloshing Sound

SO, while I am stopped (driveway, stoplight, drive-thru-wedding-chapel), I give IQQIMINI a little vroom vroom. I hear the exhaust, the supercharger whine, all that. But I also hear the sound of water (or something) sloshing around - like I am shaking the car and there's a gallon of water stuck in a tub somewhere. But I am not shaking the car, I am only giving it some vroom vrooms with the gas pedal.

I can only get the sound by giving it gas while motionless. I can't replicate by shaking the car, and there doesn't seem to be any difference with full gas tank vs. empty gas tank.

Anybody have any ideas? Do I have a poltergeist? Should I call a ghostbuster? Or something a little less fantastic....

I took delivery of my car yesterday and this morning upon start-up I heard the "sloshing" noise. I'll see if it happens again tomorrow. I now only have 26 miles on the car.

I had somes sloshing sound like that before. MINI service advisor told me it was a leak in my water pump but I never noticed any change in engine temp. My water pump was replaced with a new one under warranty and the sound hasn't come back. Weird.

i have had serveral cars in my family that made a sound like that. my aunts 05 altima makes that kind of noise when taking off from a stop sign. just sounds like fluids are starting to be pumped or some thing. my friends xb does it too. i wouldnt be worried.

Try adjusting the temp control from cold to hot. Maybe the "sloshing" is coolent coming into/out of the heater core.

Just a guess.....

same thing happens to my car and has happened for a long time. I just assumed it was the washer fluid sloshing around, but mine only happens when I start moving from a cold start... could be the coolant being pumped around.

Mine does it too. I get the noise as the momentum transfers when I shift for the first couple times.

I just heard this noise too for the first time, kind of freaked me out. I almost always have my ipod or radio on, so sometimes I have to force myself to turn it off and listen for any weird noises. I only heard it once and couldn't make it happen again, I just thought it might be rain water trapped somewhere under the hood or car. I hope it's nothing serious, seems like everything is starting to break on my car now that it's two years old. It's going in on the 30th for a bad wheel sensor and a noise coming from the passenger side strut tower, I think it's the strut bearing, but I am starting to get nervous that I am going to get a huge bill. I hear they don't consider strut tower damage to be covered by warranty.

90% of the time this is caused by water flowing through the heater core. Nothing to worry about. It's annoying, but completely normal. Mine does it too.

A possible explanation could be that the sound you are hearing is coming from the coolant expansion tank. If you take a look under the bonnet, the tanks for both the cooper and the mcs sit just left of center next to the firewall. my guess is the sloshing is only the expansion of coolant into or the flow of coolant out of the tank. It probably happens more often than just when you are stopped. While in motion, the sound might be less audible. I have heard the sound on my 2003 mcs as well, and it really sounded like it was coming from the vicinity of that expansion tank. The heater core draining sounds plausible as well.
