new clutch at 25k!
I've never heard of a clutch going out at 25k unless you dropping and over-reving to much. I had a '98 honda civic and had to replace the clutch for the first time at 80k. But 25k? What are you racing this thing?
From the sound of all of these posts, not many people have had to change the clutch in a MINI and always refer to old cars.
I have to do the same. I have only had to change a clutch in a Mitsubishi Tredia at about 140,000 miles.
Problem now days is that there is so much technology in these cars that things that normally would not go wrong now do. i.e. hydrolic engine mounts??

My 03 MCS (at 56K) is now on its 3rd clutch. First one replaced at 26K, second one at 52K - both under warranty.
This is my 5th manual car and have never had any clutch issues in any of the previous cars even when they were close to 200K.

Got my new clutch, car definetly feels different. The clutch pedal is much springier.
I brought it in because the clutch was engaging too easily, and grabbing before it should, when it was cold... now the car just does that all the time.
My service rep is out sick today, so i don't know what they determined from dismantling and remantling my car. I guess i'll find out soon!
Volki - with your warranty repair clutches - did they give you any explanations? just bad clutches???
thanks for the info, everyone

My clutch was replaced at about 27k on my MCS because of the noise I often heard (much like a chair being dragged across a floor), the service tech was able to replicate it and said that the clutch was probably glazed over I cannot remember if he said there was a TSB out on MCS clutches or not. That being said, they replaced it under warranty no problem.
the clutch went out on my Mini Cooper S at 26,000 miles. Mini of Concord told me it was "because you live in San Francisco". The total repair cost 3600 bucks. My previous car was a 5 speed Ford Explorer sport, which had a pretty shitty clutch, and it was at 70,000 miles when I sold it without the clutch ever slipping. When I got the mini, I babied that thing (I'll admit, i was kind of hard on the explorer), so when the clutch went out I was sure it would be covered under warranty. The guys at MINI Concord told me that they couldnt inspect my clutch to see if it was covered under warranty until I agreed to pay for all repairs in the event that it wasn't covered. I didn't really feel like I had much choice in the matter, so I told them to go ahead. I found out later (from an independent MINI shop in San Jose), that when the clutch goes out, there isnt much left of it to tell if there was a factory defect, and that the dealership should never had even told me there was a possibility it would be covered. They also said the repairs, if done by them, would be about 1600 bucks. Unfortunately, I was out of luck at that point becuase I had already authorized Mini Concord to inspect my car, and wouldnt you know it, i got a call later that day saying that I owed them 3600 bucks. If that wasn't enough, I had to get my dad to send them a check from Louisiana to pay for it (i don't just have 4 grand in cash laying around), and after they assured me I would get my car once they got the check (they knew it was from out of state), they called me back and said they would have to wait for the check to clear. I was without my car for over a month, and when I went to pick it up, the service tech had the audacity to take me aside and try to guilt me into giving him a 5/5 rating on my experience with them. I love my MINI, but this experience definitely soured me on the car and the brand. I've never felt so bullied and disrespected in my life. Live and learn I guess!
