Engine Oil Analysis Service

I've been considering sending in some engine oil for lab analysis when performing my next oil change. Has anyone utilized Titan Laboratories? $20 for a sample analysis seems quite reasonable. Any other laboratories that you have had good results with is appreciated.

People here have used this service http://youroil.net/

You need to do a search ... results kind of boring other than synthetic oils DO last a long time

They might last long, but on a new car, the metal that comes off, I wonder if the filter can filter it.

I would be interested in getting a 3rd party oil analysis myself.

I used Blackstone Labs to do 3 oil analysis on my 2003 MINI Cooper... with rather boring results (again, boring is GOOD!). Basically, even after 10,000 miles, the Castrol Oil that the dealer used was still doing its job, and all the levels of minerals AND contaminants were within normal specs. I do remember my very first analysis showed a very high level of silicon, but Blackstone said "considering this engine was brand new and the oil is the original oil that left the factory, high levels of silicone are normal..." something about silicon getting in the engine during manufacturing process, when the cylinders are bored out...

At subsequent oil changes, the silicon was negligible/well within expected ranges. Blackstone charges something like $30 per analysis but it is very comprehensive. I'm sure the others are quite similar.

Rock on,

Blackstone

I'm using Blackstone, metals aren't down to where they think they should be, but getting better. Boring results would be better.
