broken 05 engine mount???

While in front of the car facing the engine, the mount on the left strut tower has fluid - new and old leaking from the seam. I suspected funny engine movements for a week now, but after giving my daughter manual transimission lessions tonight...and after a couple of third gear starts an unuasual heavy clicking, but not quite thunking noise appeared. I suspect this is the cause as the noise occurs upon initial acceleration or when the throttle is abruptly closed.

Has anyone experienced a mount failure like this?

I haven;t, but a friend has. If you want to contact Steve Tech at Custom MINI Shop, they can help you out... Other than that, you could go to a dealer and have them replace the mount. Mine is leaking too, so I imagine it is a fairly common problem.

It's very common problem. I have seen this on several MCS's. Usually replaced under warranty if you are still in the warranty period.

Once you lose enough oil, the engine bounces up and down, clunking (thunking) against the stops inside the mount. Mine leaked at 8k miles and I replaced it at 30k. It was definitely out of oil since it didn't leak anymore and I could push down on the engine and hear it clunk. The oil does a good job of staining the paint on the frame rail, too.

I was just searching NAM for this problem. I drove into my garage Thursday, got out, and noticed a trail of oil behind my car. Looked under my car and there was a puddle of oil building up on my garage floor. Opened the hood and noticed that the oil seemed to be coming from a aluminum can under the engine mount on the passenger side. Figured this may be some sort of damper. Called MINI service and they said not to drive the car. They had me contact roadside service to pick up my car. It is at the shop now. They have not contacted me yet but the car is still under warranty. It will be a year old this month and has 17K miles on it.

Yea it is the hydraulic motor mount. Mine went out about 5k after my pulley install. Not sure that was the reason, but it was replaced under warranty. No biggie

Dealer called and said it was a front engine seal. Parts won't be in until Wednesday. Bummer.

I brought my car in today to replace some of the clips for the trim and mentioned that I was getting a clunking sound from the engine. It turned out to be a bad motor mount which was fixed under waranty. 17k miles on the odometer (2005 MCS). Now the annoying engine rattle is gone

I posted about a clunk - turned out to be a broken motor mount, so chalk another one up there.
