How long does a Mini Engine....?

Hey guys,
I was just wondering , how long does a Mini engine last? I it would be cool to find out who has had the longest running Mini, and what kinds of problems they've faced so far. It would be great way to learn more about the car and prove to others how great it is.
Please respond back

As with any engine it depends on how well you take care of it. There are Mini's out there with over 100,000 miles.

And if BMW knew this (or any other mfr) I'm not sure they would make it public. They probably, with the engineering, have a ballpark idea on how long it should last given a standard set of driving parameters, but since no one person drives a car the same way under the same conditions there is no way to determine how long the engine will last.

If you beat on it regularly (racing, popping the clutch, etc.) it won't likely last as long as someone who doesn't. With proper maintenance it should easily last over 100,000 miles, but then you have to take into account the god variables. You know the things that happen because the engine was built on a Monday or Friday...

Neither. Tuesday - Thursday is best. As long as there are no holidays mixed in there.

100,000 miles will pass by later today on my way to the track to do some more "racing" :D

db of whiteroofradio has over 100,000 miles on his car and also does track days with it.

But, we both have Coopers, not MCSes, so who knows if that makes a difference.

No engine problems from my car, though.

With today's engines, I would expect any good engine to go at least 150-200k with decent driving conditions and proper care. But if you get lucky and like to drive a lot maybe you'll end up like Irv Gordon and drive for 2.5 million miles on the same engine. Check out the article.

I bout my S with 74,500 miles on it, put a pulley on at 82,000 miles and currently have 86,000 miles as of today... We'll see how long my motor lasts here in the next couple of years as I plan on having this car for quite some time

If the bank will allow it, I also plan on upgrading to the M62, so we'll also see what kind of impact that has on the motor.

The only thing I've noticed lately is the cold start issues (mostly due to ethanol mixtured gas)

a modern engine if maintained from day 1 properly and you dont overly abuse it on a track or ego-maniac-ing on the highway should last over 300k miles.

mainting properly means ignoring the limits of dealers and replacing the oil at 3k or less. 5k sux. first one should be done at 1k. i dont what or whatever about synthetic this or that. I have friend who are car fanatics and change at 2k. they pour out clear oil during a change now thats protection. (they also dont beat on the engine though).
