I thought GP parts were only going to be available to those with GP VIN# to prove they own one.

Also, aren't the tubes going in and out of the intercooler bigger? I don't see how any part made by MINI/BMW would be that reasonable in price, especially something rare...

They should be available only to GP owners, but some smaler dealers just forget that if you give them the part numbers

No, they are identical... I know two people driving the GP intercooler on their modded S without problems.

The cover is quiet expensive I´m not willing to pay this price for just plastic!
I will make my own cover from aluminium sheet metal, under the hood you just need some new foam material to reposition it.

I know the chief servie manager at BMW Dortmund so I´m lucky to get any part I want

One more question Michael ...

You listed 2 screws (pn 17517511947).

These show up as "supports" (#3 in linked diagram) for the stock intercooler ...

http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...=17&fg=05&hl=4

Why were these needed?

Yes i mean the supports and screws.
The IC is bigger so you need other supports to install it. And you need two. (Left and right)

If they are same dimension as Alta,
one could just buy a diverter from Alta, which will probaby be better and a bit cheaper

Looks like 2 hex bolts (pn 07130782486) per support.

The only part available in the U.S. at the moment is the cover at $195 (only 2). Pricing for the intercooler has been released and is unchanged at $250. No price info for the underhood duct. Release ETA is the end of September but I'm sure somone is well conected and will get them sooner.

When you add it all up...

here in the US it looks to be over $500. That's most of the way to a better aftermarket unit. If you want the Mini look, go for it, but if not, save a few more $ and get a flow through like the newer Alta or the DFIC from M7.

Just a thought.....

Matt

17 51 7 565 302 RETAIL $250.00 / NAM $200.00
17 51 7 565 345 RETAIL $195.00 / NAM $156.00
17 51 7 511 947 RETAIL $6.31 / NAM $5.05
51 13 4 404 668 RETAIL $64.25 / NAM $51.40 PART NOT AVAILABLE

A bit over $400 I guess and I say it is NOT BAD for a new OEM bigger IC.

well, if it's responsible for half the HP gains...

then that's a $100/HP adder.

Matt

ps, I Think the best thing is it looks factory, so no hassle with the smog police!

Keep in mind that the oem IC core is from Behr,
this company makes all IC for Porsche, Ferrari and nearly any european motorsport team.
With the small unit I have 16 psi boost at 6000 rpm in 6. gear, I will report the boost with the bigger one.

in fact, it's a very sweet unit. But the cooling airflow is the problem. That's what the flow through designs address.

It wouldn't be a part # for sure. It's more of a flash that would appear on the computer @ your local dealer.
