BC1 part number?

Hi,
I am having problem with my third/high brake light not coming on when I apply the brakes.
After using the search button I believe that this is because of the BC1 or BCU or whatever it is called, and the brake light mod that I had done over 2 years ago .
It's going to cost $115cnd for MINI to check it and probably give me a bogus answer, so....
I can replace it with...
http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...00&hg=61&fg=25
part number 61358383551 $129.46us.

Should I let MINI check it out as it needs to go for its inspection 2 service anyways, or should I go ahead and try this unit from realoem.com?

Oh yeah, do i have the right part?

any and everones help is much appreciated

Even if you replace it yourself it will need to be coded by them. Have you removed the light and checked for power at the connector when applting the brakes? It may turn out to be the bc1, but try all the free stuff first.

to be honest, i tried undoing the three screws in the back and when i tried to lift the red cover, it started to crack.
so no i didnt get a chance to test whether or not it had power.
also I dont really have anything to test to see if there is any juice, i guess i should buy something.

The most important thing is it isnt under warranty, so if it does need a new bc1, its coming right out of the pocket .

Another thing, I was wondering what is included in the inspection 2, i guess i'll call them tommorrow.

yeah i'd go buy a cheapy DVOM (digital volt ohm meter) and take out the three t25 torx screws for the tail light remove the tail light and see if you have power at the light. compare the cost of a DVOM against a new BC1 plus atleast a 1/2 hour labor to code the BC1 but prolly closer to an hour. plus the DVOM can be used over and over for other projects. besides what mod did you do to the thrid brake light?

an inspection 2 is everything in an Inspection 1 plus a drive belt and air filter.
so basically they change your oil, change the cabin filter, top up fluids, change the drive betl, change the air filter, check the battery, hook the car to thier computer and read out any faults in the cars fault memory, check your brake pad thicknesses, and check you tire pressures. they will also give the car a good visual check over.
