bonnet smashed

i hit a deer last week and smashed my bonnet and head light assembly. to get it fixed will be 1350 and i'll have to wait three weeks. the guy is getting the hood for 399 and to paint it wil cost 430 dollars. i'm thinking it will be cheaper to get a carbon fiber.
when i drove it down to get the estimate i noticed that my check engine light was on and the check filler cap light would periodically come on and off. i noticed that the hood did hit the intercooler runner on the passenger side. could this cause a the seal to open up? is that why i'm getting the check engine light?

a carbon fiber is around 650$-800$... It might be cheaper... and would look great too.

thats what i was thinking. only i've read about fitment issues and the need to dremel and drill holes on the CF hood. the guy doing the work seems to like the CF route though. he said that he'll try to get some prices
what do i do about the check engine light

First, get the codes out.

I might be possible that a seal or gasket was broken in the accident... ??

Check this thread for a picture of a cf bonnet.

You could also PM this guy for your concerns about fitting.

A deer hit is the worst kind of luck - there is no one to go after for the reduction in value of your car. If you try to recover from your insurance company, you run the risk of future premium increases (or worst case, they decline to cover you).

I hit a deer years and years ago. I had State Farm. They did not increase my premiums or even ding my record because they consider hitting a deer to be an act of nature that is unavoidable. HOWEVER, had I swerved and missed the deer and hit say a guardrail, THEN it would be my fault. So my insurance agent said, "Always hit the deer."

I think you should be covered, and your insurance will not go up. Perhaps then you could fight to have it fixed by the dealership, too...

You would certainly be covered for the expense of the repair (and you are right, it is treated as an act of God/Nature). But I wouldn't try to go after the insurance company for the reduction in value of the car for the deer hit.
