MCS Exhaust heat shield question

Am I running any significant risk driving around witht hte battery box lower protector cover off? Just planning on doing for a day or two but I'd like to know before I take the MINI off the jacks. Looks more cosmetic, and heat protectant for the techs while the car is on a lift, maybe protects against small rocks. Thanks in advance

Over here in Germany I know a lot of people driving around without the shield for the battery, and noone ever got problems. Most of them removed it because of an exhaust system beeing a little bit bigger...

I also never saw or heard about stones crashing against the shield, so I'd say it is more cosmetic part. Maybe it is a little bit for the aerodynamics for the rear of the car, but I doubt you can feel a difference when driving.

Hmmm, do you have any insulation left over from our CAI experiments? Would it be practical to line the *inside* bottom half of the battery compartment?

Best,
