Broken Paddle shifter

So one of my paddle shifters broke the other day. It is now "loose" (doesn't return to the middle position - Kinda like a spring broke) and is now a "flappy paddle" in every sense of the word (with emphasis on the "flappy").

Anybody else heard of this happening to an MCSa? It's a little disconcerting to say the least.

I use my paddles (or the shift ****) in my MCSa 100% of the time when I am driving. Mine are still good as new after 14,000 miles. What did the dealership say?

I haven't taken it to the dealership yet. This happened on my way home from work yesterday, so by the time I got home it was cutting it close to getting there and back before being where I had to that night.

I did call though, and was told to bring it on in. The SA was a little concerned that it was still functional (as in.... it would still shift) but would shift at innappropriate times.

What concerns me is that this is the paddle that I use almost all the time. For one reason or another, I hardly use the other one. Just my dominant hand I guess...... I worry that this will be a continual wear issue. I don't want to have this issue every 17,000 miles or so.

And before someone asks, I don't bang it around. I tap it with appropriate force.

Will update when the dealership tells me something. I'm taking it in on Monday.

Don't be shy to complain and make sure the dealer fix it... It is not like if you would have broken it in 2 parts... It an internal problem and should be fixed by the dealer, and covered by the warranty!

I don't think that will be a problem. I have a pretty good relationship with the SA at my dealership. He's always taken care of me and others in the past with no arguments on warrantly work.

I mainly wondered if this was a problem that any others had experienced. Like I said, if this is an easily worn part, this won't be the last time I repair it.

Got my car back after a couple of days at the dealership.

Verdict was Mechanical Failure of the shifter system inside. My SA said he could have just replaced a piece or two, but opted on the safe side and replaced the whole assembly (under warranty of course).

Worked fine at autocross this weekend.... (too bad my brain didn't - my times were abysmal).
