Wrong battery height for MC

I can confirm that the Everstart 47-3 PLUS battery sold at Walmart does *not* fit the standard Cooper. There are two problems:

1. The battery is too short. It is short by about 1/2 inch, which means the terminal connectors are too high to reach the battery when it is sitting inside the battery box. The rear connector is flexible, so it's not as critical, but the front connector (the positive one) is a long metal arm which *can't* be flexed to reach the terminal.

2. The geometry of the top of the battery prevents the metal retaining arm from reaching the screws which hold it down. This is not as critical, but without this strap your battery will be rattling around on bumpy roads, which is *not* good.

By the way, the EverStart batteries at Wal-Mart are made by Johnson Controls, so this probably rules out any other batteries made by them for other stores.

I'm still searching for a good third-party battery that will fit. Anyone have any suggestions?

You could always put a 1/2" spacer under the battery to boost it up.

We recently replaced the Original Battery in our 2003 MC. We bought a NAPA
Legend #7547. This fits the MINI Perfectly. The cost was $177.00 for Parts & Labor

Wow! are you serious? The last battery I bought for my last car was from Sams and it was a close out model. It was a 700amp Champion battery for $10 (nornally $40). That was 3 years ago and its still going strong. I am sure there are other batteries that will fit the mini that can be had for less than $177...

Yes that is what we paid for a Battery Replacement. From what i understand it is made for the MC. It as i said fits perfectly. Could care less about the Cost. Some owners pay Thouands to Modify their Mini. We have peace of mind that our New Battery will last for another 4 or 5 years. Also had the Original Tires replaced. We love our Mini. It has only 20,100 Miles. We give it a lot TLC.

I always go one step better when it's time to replace parts.

Yeap, but this is for the MCS .The MC needs a more exact match
since it's in the engine, and specially if there is a strut tower bar.

Does anyone know if the R34 Red Top Optima will fit in a Mini, non-S? I've read it will fit the S but am not sure about a standard Mini...
