EMERGZENCY - Did I just do something REAL stupid?

If I remember correctly from the original post it was something about an intake, oil gunk, a garden hose, and a possibly ruined engine. Something like that. I didn't have an answer so I didn't post then.

Alright, but only because you all asked so nicely.
I removed and cleaned the Alta CAI filter for the first time. When I went to put it back, I noticed the bottom of the CAI box was gunky as well. I figured it was the same sort of gunk as on the filter, and that it would clean the same way.
So, I sprayed some cleaner in the box, waited three minutes and hosed it out, expecting the dirty water to simply drain out the bottom of the box.
When the water/gunk combo seemed to be just standing there, I started to get paranoid. When I spotted what looked sort of like a drain at the lower front of the box, I got real paranoid, since for all I knew, it was somehow draining into the engine. I figured neither water, nor gunk, nor cleaner would do the innards of my engine good.
So, rather than stand there staring at it, I came inside and posted my quite terrified note.
By the time I got back outside, the water was gone, and I was able to look at the whole thing a little more sanely. What I saw as a 'drain' was actually the air intake that I could trace to the input just over the radiator.
I am not sure just where the water drained to, but with a few hundred miles on the engine since that time, I am pretty sure it was not the engine. it was a scary couple of minutes until I figured out an engine could not be designed the way I was imagining, but I got over em.
There. Dumb enough for y'all?

Well, it turns out that posting the original note was the dumb thing, and the cleaning was just fine.
Still, I gotta tell ya, thinking about just what it was going to take to cure the problem I thought I created made me feel almost too stupid to breathe.

I think we've all had those "oh ____" moments when the mind races and the adrenaline kicks in a bit. In the better times, you calm down when you realize its all okay. At other times... sigh.
Glad this was one of the better times! ;-)

Good confession, whovous.
I can't tell you how many things I've ruined by 'cleaning' them.
And that doesn't include the engines running poorly due to water in the spark plugs/injectors/dist.cap/etc.
Glad to hear it wasn't fatal.

My talent of late seems to involve destroying motherboards, though I am as yet unconvinced either one is my fault. I am pretty sure this cleaning idea was not only safe, but that it was actually a good idea after all.
But like Minitee says, "there are moments when the mind races.." and all manner of catastrophic flags unfurl in the brain.
LBE, no, I won't actually try it to be sure, but would spraying water on an Alta CAI filter while the engine is running really hurt something? How?
