'06 remote key stopped working/programming

'06 remote key stopped working/programming
Hello,
My Mini key has stopped locking/unlocking remotely. I ran around with the spare key to charge it and test it, and it also doesn't work. So I can't blame the keys.
I tried reprogramming based on the instructions given here,

That didn't help. I never got the doors to lock/unlock while doing the programming. Yes, I know how to follow directions. That leads me to believe something is wrong in the receiver. Anyone know anything about it, or have alternative ways to program the keys?
