Brake Sensors?

Hey guys,

An independent mechanic took a look at my brakes and measured the thickness of the pads at 1/32 and the sensor hasn't indicated brake servicing yet. I usually replace pads at 1/32.

Anyone have any experience with brake servicing and wwhat a dealer is willing to do? Thanks!

Do you have brake wear sensors? they are not on the early cars.

My pads are getting thin, so I called my Dealer. I told him the sensors were with in a few thousandths of contact.
He said they could NOT replace the pads as a covered item until the light goes on. The good news is the pads are bonded and there are no rivets.

I'd be skeptical

sometimes the pads don't wear even (Curses, you rubber caliper bushings!), so I'd be worried about going too thin. I'm not a bit fan of brake wear sensors..... If you're really worried, make sure you can see the leading AND trailing edge of the pads to make sure that one side isn't closer to metal on metal..... And if you can get that far without the sensor going off, ask the SA if they'll repalce you rotors too!

They will replace them if they are less than 3mm at any pad. thaey know that they don't wear evenly. Don't worry about the rotors. If they are damaged, they will be replaced. That is a good thing.

Brake Job

The dealer agreed to fix the brakes under warranty even though the sensors were not tripped, and said that 3/32 was the worst the pads should be, and mine were 1-2/32.

I didn't make them rip the dash out to fix the a/c whistling at high speed, but they are fixing the other 12 things. They recommended not using preium gas at all to help with stalling at startup - something to do with vapor in the gas tank, etc.

I sure hope that this is only a temporary solution..... Until they issue yet another ECU update that doesn't quite fix everything....

The vapor thing is for east coasters that have much higher levels of ethanol (that collects the moisture) than in california.

Go back, tell them to check for a TSB and upload V56? onto your DME, had it done to weeks ago, very pleased adjusts many other things too.

I did my own brakes and took that sensor and bent iback and zip tied it, I never let the brakes get soo bad that it would be tripped, plus if it goes off you must buy a new sensor for an additional charge, I know most won't do brakes under warranty as they are a "wear item" so consider yourself luck if you managed to get them replaced.
