herky jerky big whir very rough idle

S**t...... the old problem with the lights is gone...for now

I took a fellow Mini owner for a ride and got on it pretty good but not above redline......I developed a big whirring sound that follows the RPM...the idle is very rough and the car leaps and surges...... I have some ideas like maybe the boots have a leak a the DFIC.....the belt is about to go.....the new cam is all but launched...the SC is shot......

the car intermittently runs fine every 10-15 seconds it wanders in and out of fine to not fine but not limp mode either...

to add to this my OBDII wont hook up....I just get "failed" this condition has been going on foer a few days the whir started about 1/2 hr ago

After checking for air leaks, plugs, the normal obvious stuff, etc... I would check fuel pressure. Without seeing the car or more info/codes it is hard to help. Did it start after some recent mods?

Just saw your other post. Try leaving the dsc/asc module disconnected and then connect your obd2 tool.

Good to hear, Spider! Have fun with your monster machine ! BTW, this sounds a lot like what Sid had to go through, replacing his IC boots after the Alta TMIC. Isn't this exactly the same as he had to do?

not sure but the Alta apparently is a little larger and stretches the boots some......regardless the boots even though I have a catch can had a slight amount of film on them.....this does not help.....the rubber was just fatigued......understandable but still a pain in the butt....new boots are less than $50 for the pair
