Haynes also has a manual, but you are not likely to find it in a store.
It is a UK manual but the US sales center will sell/send you one. I have
not seen it but suspect it is a better manual for the DIY'er than the
Bentley manual, which I have, and is at least half the cost.

I got the Haynes Manual from my local NAPA store. Haynes #4273, took about 3 days for them to get it in store from their supplier. It's as complete as I need. About 40 bucks.

The link worked for me, but if it doesn't, just go to http://www.amazon.com and enter "bentley mini" (without the quote marks) in the search box. It should be the first hit that comes up.

The list price on the manual is $99, but Amazon sells it for about 2/3 of that. It is a serious shop manual. It's very detailed, but it is also very heavy and expensive, and it only covers 2002-2004. (Although the later cars aren't very different.)

I haven't seen the Haynes, but based on my experience with their other manuals, I would suspect it is less complete than the Bentley manual, but still very good. (There may be a lot of stuff in the Bentley manual you'll never need to get into.) I'm not sure which would be better for your needs.

As I said before, I don't have the Haynes and haven't seen it but
I do have the Bentley manual and I can tell you that it has more
wasted space and absolutely the worst wiring diagrams I have
ever seen in a car repair manual.

I bought the Haynes manual for my 2006 MCS. It's a 2005 manual, but nobody has a 2006 manual out yet. I just had to have a manual. I love seeing how things are screwed together. I believe the Bentley is probably a better manual, but at $29 the Haynes was the better deal. I bought it at MiniMania & they are a forum sponsor.

You can find it here >> http://new.minimania.com/web/Item/42.../InvDetail.cfm

I see that the manual has gone up in price. Guess I must have bought mine during the Christmas sale. Still a good buy IMO.

Disclaimer......I'm not affiliated with MiniMania in any way, just a satisfied customer....Yada, Yada, Yada.

Chuck,
Does the Haynes manual for 05 cover any JCW installed part specs/torque specs?
Thank you for your time. MOTORRR

Really depends on what year Mini you have. The manuals only go up to 2004 or 2005.

My copy of the Haynes manual #4273 doesn't make mention of JCW at all. It does however have torque specs.

From what I understand Bentley is going to release a new manual with the differences in 05 & 06 cars covered in it. If you have no pressing need for a manual right now I'd advise you sit tight & wait for the new Bentley to come out.

Chuck,
I've read about the upcoming 05 supplement due out in Mar. perhaps. I will wait....in the mean time, can you tell me what the torque specs are for the plastic IC cover-mounted to the top of the intercooler? and the torque specs for the four (4) IC boot clamps bolts. I believe these are #30 torq. bolts. It's time to get rid of the oil build up.....Thanks for your time.
HAPPY NEW YEAR, MOTORRR

Mr Haynes has let us down. No torques specs for intercooler cover or the intercooler boot clamps. I'll head out to the garage & check the Bentley manual. Be right back.

Back from the garage. Looks like Mr Bentley let us down too. For the bolts that hold the plastic IC cover on. Just run them in until the flat around the head makes contact with the cover. Then maybe a 1/4 turn. They really aren't holding much at all. As for the boot clamps I'd go with the torque specs you have. I'm off to party with the old farts.

Happy New Year....

The BMW TIS CD-ROM has this table for intercooler torque values.

Torque values.

Rkw,
FANTASTIC! This is exactly what I have been looking/hoping for-real numbers. Not just, "Oh, just a little past hand-tight otta' do'er". Thanks for digging this information out and passing it along. MOTORRR

Is there anyone out there with one of these two manuals that can tell me which of the two are more detailed about the assembly of the ride level sensors? The dealer will not help me in this case, because they said that it looks like someone installed my front one incorrectly. I can't prove that any particular person did or didn't touch this part and so I need to fix it myself (which I dont mind doing at all). The problem is that I dont know what it looks like correctly installed. If anyone can share a couple pages, or pictures of their sensor, that would be awesome. This might be the way I decide which manual to buy. I was always more interested in the bentley, but after reading here, not so much anymore. I LOVE detail, but i dont like a waste of space...
thanks guys. grateful for any help at all,

spade
