Can throttle response be improved?

I've done some searching, no joy.

Has there been an effort to improve the throttle response of the mini's fly-by-wire throttle? It would be nice to have the snap that a carbureted engine's accelerator pump gives.

Some joy has been had by various methods. First, obviously, would be to alter the software. I've gotten the impression that most of the flashes quicken throttle response. Uprated coil pack/wires/plugs seem to help. Larger throttle bodies tend to quicken the response, as well.

These are at least the easy ways that I can suggest.

CAI has been the first thing people usually swap for better throttle response.

My throttle responce has been greatly improved over stock. When I first got my Mini I really hated the lag in responce as it was my first "throtle by wire car".. The list below all contributed to this outcome. Of course there are several other companies making similar items to some of these listed below which will give you improvments as well. I just point out what areas I have worked on to get what you are looking for.

M7 14.5 lb flywheel
M7 1 lb crank shaft pulley
M7 16% supercharger pulley
M7 64/62 mm throttle body
M7 AGS intake
MTH soft ware

Of your list, rotating mass and software appear to have the most direct effect. Changing the flywheel is not something I want to do at this point, but for comparison purposes, do you have the numbers on the mass of the stock components?

Edit: nevermind - lotsa threads on the subject.

Software. Is this an aspect of engine operation that is directly addressed by the modified software? Perhaps that is a question best asked of the software houses.

On other area that may affect it is how early boost comes in, how quickly the BPV closes. I currently use a restriction orifice to control yo-yo. This slows the BPV down to about 250 msec for full opening to full closure but even that is just on the edge of the yo-yo point. I didn't notice it being any laggier than stock.

Can users of VGS comment on whether it improves throttle response?

Can't speak for the Mini, but with BMW many reported improved DBW response with Dinan or Shark software.

M7 Ags
M7 16% pully
m7 64/62 TB

All this is on my car plus exhaust, which i dont think exhaust did much for the response. But those things made a difference in my response.

I've started looking at ECU software for improved throttle response. I might consider the MTH package if it weren't for the fantastic HP claims they make. Has there been any substantiation of these claims? It's more than a pulley (+24HP standard, +34HP tuner).

What about the zip-tie mod? (Zip tying the bypass valve shut.) Isn't that supposed to make a big improvement in throttle response. (At the cost of about 10% in mpg, if I remember right.)

Nice plug Randy.

Dan from Rohr Autowerks should be calling you for more items soon. Im gonna be needing the big throttle body and maybe your full AGS system.

I do what I can We have everything you need standing by. I am also a member of the " project no chrome " club but not quite to the same degreee as you. I did have great results with the " chrome surround tape mod " . That one I highly recommend.

I still have to do the drip molding, door handles and gas door. I was going to do the cooper gas door swap, but people have said it doesnt fit right. Both cars are identical in that area so i dont know why anyone would have trouble doing this. Guess ill have to try myself and see how it comes out.

Yes, have your dealership upgrade your ECU software. The tip-in "feel" is much more pronounced in version 39.2 and higher than it was in versions 33 or 36 that I used to run. I think I have v42?? in it now and still the tip-in "feel" is there.

Read thru my thread https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...ad.php?t=33326
about my feelings of this "improved" tip-in feel to the software.
