Hey gang,

i have a quick question about my problem im having with my transmission. Every once in a while ill notice a loud clicking coming frim the gearbox when i shift from 1st to 2nd, and only between those 2 gears. My dad says it could be the synchros, but my friend had a similar problem with a half shaft , dont know what that is...but im a little worried that this could be an expensive problem..any input would be appreciated, thanks!

 

I'm assuming you have the Getrag 6-speed transmission.
If you do, it's normal. Should sound more like a clunk
than a clicking noise. Another MINI quirk. :smile:

 

you are right in assuming that...but normal? are you sure? Ive never noticed it that loud before, even people standing 100ft. away at WOT heard it

 

Mine has done that since new, and I can hear it myself,
especially with the window down. If yours has just started,
it may be something different. Did you just notice it being
loud yourself lately, or after it was brought up by someone

it's normal for a getrag transmission.
I took it to the dealer and they confirmed it was normal.
There's a thread here somewhere which confirms it's the nature of the Getrag.. It's just passing through the gate for the reverse gear.
