I'm going to have to get me one of these. On my 03 MCS I had purchased a standard FIAMM low/high horn set from the local auto parts store and replaced the low side on the MINI with a high. Simply change over and close to the sound of this one. Though I doubt if it was as loud as this one but it was noticeably louder than stock.

What does that matter? Who cares what the emblem says - it's not the same horn in this thread, and there's still no sound clip of it anywhere I can find. If you are implying that anything FIAMM is great, I would disagree.

Well it arived tonight and I tried it out on the porch....OH MAH GAW it is L O U D!!! It's 2x the size of the stock horns, so I'll have to find another mounting spot. I'm looking for any guide on the wiring now. I think the stocks are just a positive lead and are grounded at the mounts, have to verify. The stock wiring should be fine for it - at least for short bursts. The stock fuse is 15A, this only calls for a 20. So I should be able to just find a mount and extend one of the stock wires to it! It's already dark, so I can't hunt for a location tonight - but I'll be working on it Sat!

It sounds REALLY sweet though - very nice tone, smooth and INSTANT - and did I mention LOUD???!!!!

I bet if you put a CAI on it you can get at least another 10db out of it. I want to see the dyno results before I buy one!

i like my air horns from JCW, they sell a simmilar set at Harbor Freight, but my set is a higher pitch, very fitting for the mini. since i sold the red MC, they are in a new location on the MCS, i moved them up to the passenger side cowl cavity.

they are the same horns, just louder now and on a different car...

I think that's where this is going to end up. How did you wire it?

How did you physically tie into the wire?

Oh, was that you I saw getting thrown out of the Brauhaus last nite?

Anyway, I'm following this adventure closely so I can get them fitted too. Thanks for keeping us up-to-date.

Well...this is not going to be so easy...no clear good spot. It fits somewhat below the master cylinder, however it would be pretty much sealed in that cavity...still looking, but might not be a go for me.

I've been looking to do this as well. I like to be seen (day running lights) and heard as well. Post when you're done and let us know.

you dont have room on the passenger side of the cowl?

theres plenty of room in there and its sealed to the hood, so the noise all escapes directly thru the vent, no matter what direction or location its mounted!

Well I sold it to a guy at work - there just isn't any good spot without a lot of work, that frankly isn't worth it, altering the car for the horn. Yes there is physical room in the cowl area, however to get it in there the outlets would be facing down, about 2" from the bottom. It would probably kill 3/4 of the volume and be louder INSIDE than out. Just not a good place at all.

mine are almost touching the bottom. louder than they were facing outwards in my bumpers. its reverberates in the hole and grows louder.

if you wan an eaiser install, just get a set of dual horns from JCW or Harbor Freight, they are the same, with the exception that the JCW ones are a higher pitch.

not shouting, more argumentative and disrespectful.

I had the blazer one in my old WRX and they sounded pretty good
and very loud. a couple of my buddies ended up buying the
same ones. just giving out ideas.

Disrespectful - ug - people throwing that term around this forum is soooo old. Way past annoying and repetative, just...meaningless. Any differing opinion becomes 'argumentative and disrespectful'. Well, whatever...

kaelaria, when you were seeking probable locations, did you look down in the lower grill area, like on the sides (not blocking the A/C and radiator)?

After doing some measurements today, it appears that it might be doable...

So, would you say that they might fit, if visible? I certainly don't mind. They make a black one that would blend-in quite nicely anyway...

I appreciate your input, thank you.

yeah, your going to need to make a bracket that will bolt to the bumper support. nothing too serious, but it might take a bit of engennering to get it right!

post some pics if you decide to go thru with it, id like to see how it looks with the horns showing.....i'm kinda split about seeing the horn....
