MCS Supercharger vs JCW Supercharger

Is it true there is no differance between an '05 MCS supercharger and that in the JCW kit then the pulley size?

Isn't the JCW charger lined with something to fortify it against "the increased pressure"...??

I thought it was the same size and flow capacity etc, just slightly modified...more accurately, over-engineered.....

(?)

I think that was true for prior model years, but not for 2005 models.

this tells me there IS something different than stock. Overengineered? maybe. But different. That would be consistent with **** comment

Here's a Q&A I did with Eaton on MotoringFile awhile back on the differences btetween the JCW Supercharger vs the standard MCS:

Doesn't that just mean it has a 14.whatever % reduction pulley to spin it faster? I think the actual SC is basically the same as stock and has that coating. The coating is put along the sides so when the SC is spun for the 1st time, it eats away part of the coating where the tolerances weren't perfect and provides a much better seal. They probably decided it was worth it to just put the coating on all of them for longevity reasons and not have to worry about replacing the whole unit when fitting the JCW kit.

Thank You. Notice, however, he never really says "what" the differences are?

BTW, motoringfile rocks. Never go a day without reading it

I have studied this, talked to others and believe the prior posts on this thread corroborates for me that the only differance between the stock MCS and JCW supercharger is indeed the pulley size.

"Q: Is the new unit the same one on the MINI Cooper S JCW kit?

A:The unit supplied to John Cooper Works continues to be different to the unit fitted in production and the John Cooper Works package will continue to offer your readers enhanced performance without detriment to the engine durability."

Tuls,

To me, that means the pulley is the differance.

Here is another vote for the only difference being the pulley on the JCW s/c.

The MCS water pump is driven by the supercharger shaft on the opposite side of the case from the pulley. Someone on the MINI2 forum posted that the JCW supercharger has revised gearing for the waterpump so it is not overdriven by the fitted reduction pulley. I have not seen this confirmed by a reputable source, so take it as a confirmed rumor.
