oil question

I got ahold of a jug of Motul SPECIFIC 505.01 5W40 oil and was just wondering if it would work in a Mini because it says it's specifically designed for VWs but another guy at work uses it in his Mustang

I'll bet the only Ill effect it will have is to sprout a flower vase. There are a number of good arm chair motoroil gurus pooling around here.

Oil is oil……………if you are not sure about the stuff type in "Motul SPECIFIC 505.01 5W40 oil" on Goggle and do some research.....for your own piece of mind.

I think that it would be fine to use but others might disagree. Really, there is a wealth of information at your finger tips.

oil

That's the result of some marketing guy telling his product group - "You know, we could put just about anything on the label of this and there'd be a whole lotta people out there who'd believe it."

Correct. BP (formerly British Petroleum) is the maker of both the BMW and MINI Genuine Oil products. Castrol is just a brand name now. Same stuff as Syntec, but with the OEM name. Best bet is to buy the Syntec on your own and take it to the dealer, or favorite lube joint. No need to pay marked up prices for the same ingredients.

Stick with what the manual recommends. There have been situations where dealers have not warrantied engine problems because the manual was not followed w.r.t. engine oils. Just be careful...
