I have an early 04 model. I have been searching for information related to upgrades for the Getrag (more specifically reasonably priced alternate transmission ratios). I know the 05 model (and late 04) came with alternate gear ratios that look similar if not the same as the Ford Focus SVT.

I know I could look to a salvage yard for a whole transmission, I was hoping to stick with what I have and do a minor upgrade (spend less than a used transmission).

I am looking for acceleration, as opposed to top end speed, the Mini is geared to high for my taste.

It looks like I could get a minor improvement by just changing the ring & pinion (I know all three gears) from the later model transmission assuming everything interchanges.

Anybody have interchange information on the Getrag 6 speed?

How about a service manual for the Getrag? The Bentley manual says take it out and ship it back whole! I assume the Ford service manual (Focus SVT) probably provides service & rebuild details for this transmission (which I would assume to be similar to the Mini)

Anybody been down this path before?

I have seen several aftermarket suppliers providing alternate gear ratios for this transmission, but am looking for something more reasonably priced and more in line with the acceleration criteria.

I am sure I can get the transmission out, not sure I am ready to crack it open.

The mini Getrag 6-spd is unique to the mini. It was designed to fit in a compact space and uses 2 seperate output shafts. It actually has two axle ratios which define the overall ratio of the gearbox depending on the gear selected. I don't think it is readily interchangeable with other 6-spd getrags... Best to find one from an 05 that was wrecked and still in good shape...
