Where can I read all about the Mini's 1.6?

Hello this is my first post

I'm looking for all the info on the Mini's 1.6l engine. All I know about it is that it is a Chrysler unit (according to Road & Track). What other cars have used this engine? How long has it been around? How long has this engine been used with a SC?

I have an '05 MCS on order (actually I'm waiting to order)

Is there a link to comprehensive info about the engine?

Thx,
MiniBruiser

This is from MINIUSA.com:

"Where is the engine from?
The engine is produced in Brazil as part of a joint venture with
Daimler-Chrysler, which was initiated in 1996. A joint venture means
that neither party "owns" the factory. It is a shared entity producing
engines for both parties. This engine was designed by both parties
with power output and global emissions requirements in mind.
It is not used in any other vehicle in the US Market."

It's not much, but it answers a couple of your questions.

Here is the website for our engines.
http://www.tritecmotors.com.br/english/index.html

If I had the cash I would buy one and keep in my garage, heh.

It's a damn good engine regardless of what some people may say about it.

I read that and more... the little engine that could... Lots of forged components, oil spray cooling on underside of pistons. Iron block for strength with a aluminum head. 5 bolt mains.... They designed it for forced induction so it will hold up with no problem...

What do you think about the new C6 Corvette?

Cool link. Does anyone happen to have the article that includes the figures and tables?

At first, I really liked the C6. It's not bad looking. However, I still like my C5Z best. I got to drive the C6 and I think it's too quiet for my tastes. I suppose a better exhaust system would fix that. I like the more "rowdy" nature of the C5 better. I got a great deal on my '04 so I don't think I'll be getting another Vette for a while. Maybe there will be big discounts on the C6Z in the final year of production, just like it was with the C5. I might spring for one then!

Can't wait to get my MINI as the big beast's little companion.

cheers!

 We have an older Corvette ('91) we bought new. You will LOVE your new MINI! They are apples and oranges, but the MINI's nimbleness and light weight will be a very fresh change for you, I'm sure!

Yes MINIclo! I do love smaller cars. The MINI is exactly what I'm looking for... all the features and build quality of a BMW in a smaller, more fuel efficient, more fun, more exclusive (at least in SoCal) package! Can't wait to get out of my daily driver Civic and into the MINI. I feel so spoiled already!

Do MINI's wave or flash or have a secret handshake? I realize in poseurland SoCal there's not as much camraderie amongst performance car owners... but I occasionally get waves from other Vettes.

MB, when I am cruising down the streets (non-freeway ones), I typically have Wanda's windows rolled down and enthusiastically wave to every other MINI-motorer I see! I also flash my lights, if I can get to it quickly enough!

Another cool thing, I get the little finger-up-off-the-steering-wheel signal from drivers of British sportscars, such as MGs and Triumphs, which is always so much fun!

Where in SoCal are you? I'm in Mar Vista, near...tee hee...Clover Field (Santa Monica Airport).

I'm in the Westlake Village/Thousand Oaks area.... right next to all those great Malibu Canyon roads! I look forward to driving with the SoCal Minis at some point.
