Anyone know if this squeel is the same as I am experiencing? When cruising normally when I blip the throttle I get a high pitched ringing. Only caused by a change in the rpm. My SA says its my throttle body fluttering and its "normal". Any suggestions?

I picked up my MCSC on 7/26/05 and it started squeaking/chirping two days later. Took it back to the dealer (Global Imports - Atlanta) and they acknowledged it was a common problem and mentioned it was the tensioner. After having it for two days they told me the part was back ordered. Two weeks later, it finally came in and i dropped it off on 8/17.

They diagnosed it as a bad vibration damper and replaced that part. My advisor told me they thought that would fix the problem but that they wanted to replace the whole supercharger anyway. (supposedly there were some big shots from Mini in town and this was their call) But then they told me that the supercharger isn't available as a part - they have to pull it off a production vehicle. BS? I dunno. but we decided that its probably fixed and I didn't want to wait 2+ weeks for more parts. I've only had it back for a day, but so far no squeaks.

Looking at my service receipt, it looks like they only replaced the vibration damper, not the tensioner. Anybody else had that diagnosed as the problem?

Is there only one main belt on the engine? If so then it was adjusted well worked with when my pulley was installed.

It looks like you do have the Alta CAI - the sound you're hearing may very well be the TB - I can cause it to happen on demand by feathering the throttle. It's a well known side effect of the ALTA intake - some call it whistling but it is more of a ringing sound in mine. If you slowly add throttle you will hear the noise start and then go away, it seems to happen at a particular throttle angle.

I HAVE THIS PROBLEM. i know EXACTLY what you're talking about! i noticed the (almost dentist drill type) rpm dependant whine when i picked up my mcsa. after adding the jcw intake the sound was amplified - a lot - and it drove me nuts, so i took out the air box. the sound is till there - albeit much fainter - but it's there. i've had my tech try to figure out what it is, but i am always told it's nothing they can pinpoint. i went for a second opinion and another tech thought it was something inherent in the sound of the tranny itself.

if you hear of anything i'd be greatly interested as i will not add another intake again (even when i go full jcw next month) to my mcsa as the sound is completely annoying.

stay in touch - drew

I've had the intake since the car had about 100 miles on it. Car now has 4400 and has CAI, 15% pulley, Magnaflow, kingsborne wires, and Denso IK22 plugs. But as far as I know its some stupid issue that is caused by the TB.

Something different then this thread is about.

I have a squeeling problem with my Apr 04 MCS when i first take off from a stop. I have narrowed it down to the belt. I noticed that someone said that one of their pullies, crank i think, has chipping paint. Isnt this normal, i have it too. If it is not, i would like to know.

What would a dealer do if i told them to do something about it? Tell me that it is cosmetic and not to worry? Or is it something minor that i shouldnt take the risk of the dealer screwing up?

It doesnt matter how bad or long it should take us.....If there is a problem with the vehicle they should take care of it and not b.s you.....The pulley should not look like that with missing paint......thats def not normal wear and is takes nothing to change it.

Well as the author of this thread, I finally got my MCS fixed thanks to the replies here. Mini of Sterling replaced the tensioner and belt and I haven't had the problem come back in 500 miles now, I'm quite happy. Good luck to all the others.

Well after a month of owning it and 1400 miles, I am fairly certain the problem has gone away as I haven't heard it in a few weeks or 400 or so miles. I am guessing it was crap they sprayed on the cars when it was shipped like someone said.

Same problems as everyone except the dealer simply said that the alternator was misaligned as per mini bulletin. They aligned it and so far.........800 miles later.......It is fixed. My question to noone in particular: If this is a problem, Why doesn't Mini provide a simple tool for the dealers and they can align the alternator "before" the customer takes delivery???? IF we are to be treated as the "road test" crew, then I want to be paid for my time...LOL

No success with JCW belt

The dealer installed a JCW belt the middle of last month and it looked like we had the problem fixed on our '05 MCSa. For the next 3-4 weeks (maybe 500 miles) all was quiet. However over the last week or so the problem has resurfaced. Only now it doesn't wait until the car is warm - it starts squealing just as soon as we start it up first thing in the morning. It is also getting progressively louder. So it's back to the dealer for another attempt. Wish us luck.
