Bodinski, thanks for clearing up the "number of belts" issue. Since the MCS's only have one belt...I must indeed share the same troubles as the other folks on this board. Were all of your MCS's late summer deliveries? I picked mine up July 12th.

I put more miles on their loaners than on my MCSC. I drove it to work 1 day!!!! Trying to be patient and wait for tensioner, I think for certain they will replace the belt while it is off anyways. Its a $20 part.

Hi all! Not much new to report. It seems that the BMW Inspector will be here sometime next week to take a gander at my squealer. I sure hope he can properly diagnose and repair my car so that I can start enjoying babying it through the break-in period. I suppose I won't have any word about diagnoses and/or repair plan until next week...at least.

Mine only squeals slightly now when it's 95° to 100°. Dealer said they did nothing, but it used to squeal loudly all the time at 80° and above once the car was warmed up. So you can add me to the list.

Mine's a squealer as well. 2005 MCSa, June build. Typically starts squealing on a warm day (80+ degrees) driving around town above 2500 rpm.
Good luck on all your fixes, mine's going in on August 10th for Northwest Mini to take a look at it.
So add me to the list of Mini Squealers.

Mine started on Tuesday as a low whistle and is now a loud whine. I took it to the dealer this morning and they said all superchargers make a noise, but did agree mine was louder than usual.
It seemed to be worse on the drive home from work today. I am going back to the dealer tomorrow and demand they replace the supercharger - I have 300 miles on this car and it has already been in the shop more days than I have had it.
Problem is, I love the car - I just want it to sound like it should.

Reunited.
After I had the car for Just over 36 hours, the dealer kept it for 6 days. They called today and I rushed to pick it up.
Belt Tensioner replaced... No more squeal (only 50 miles so far)
Stereo replaced .... CD player works
Got caught in a terrible thunderstorm on the way home, so their car wash was all for naught. Of course I had to clean her up even though the humidity was approaching 100% (due to the rain and were in the South) and it was 9:00 PM. Everything looked OK until I noticed some moisture on the turn signal. On closer inspection I noticed it is cracked. DARN IT! I did get the clear bra, so it should be covered (I don't even know when it would have happened, maybe before clearbra application). I know the clear bra is over the fogs and the headlights, but does anyone know if they apply it to the turn signals? The crack is small so I will notify the dealer and then take it in but not right away as I said before I have only driven this car 2 days of the 9. I want to insure the squeal is gone before I drive 50 miles back to the dealer. FINGERS ARE CROSSSED and HIND CHEEKS are PUCKERED.

I am within about 4 miles of my dealer, so I will be dropping by there after lunch to get another opinion, especially now that I know I am not alone with this problem.
This is a very interesting topic becasue I have a 2002 and while I did not have this problem for the first year I had my car that sound did start happening right after I had my JCW upgrade done. The sound I get disappears though after about 10 minutes of driving or when the car has warmed up. And the longer I let the car sit in the garage which can be for days at a time the louder the noise is at start up, disappearing agin after the car has warmed up. Anybody have any ideas on what mine would be?
My squeel is back again!
My squeel is back again! To me is sounds like a chirping, and is louder when it is warmer. Classic's fix: "Removed tensioner mounting bolt and
lube bushings and tensioner", was good for 5 days.
They plan to install a new tensioner on Aug. 5th.
I added my mame to the list below.

Here's what Classic did for me:
I went there on Wednesday and they replaced the tensioner. It still had the problem later that night. It wasn't as bad, but it was there. Apparently they didn't replace the belt, because they assumed it was the tensioner.
I called and they had me bring it in yesterday. Before I brought it in it was "chirping" but not as bad and barely audible. I attribute this to the cooler temperatures outside. By the time they got to it, the car was not making any noise. They decided to replace the belt to be sure. As of this morning and about 100 miles the sound has not returned. When I spoke to the technician, he said that possibly the protective wax coating that they apply to the cars may have gotten on the belt or tensioner causing the problem.
I will report back after a few days of driving. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that this fixed it. I'm also hoping for some really hot days, so I can be sure it is fixed. The outside temperature does seem to play a part in this problem.

I will update on 8/8.
the squeeling indicates something is not alighned right. there full of crap that it will go away. only when the belt has wore down enough that it dosent rub on its edges will it then stop. i have 6000 on my mcs now and i never had a squeek, even after pulley was done still quiet. thank god!!!
I have ~3000 miles now and the squeal seems to have disappeared even at high temps. I was in Fresno today and it was 106 and no squeal. Tomorrow will be the final test on the MidCal MINIs Jamestown run. Lots of high revs and speed increases that used to cause the squeal in just a few minutes. I'm keeping my fingers crossed because I ordered a pulley and don't want to have to wait for the dealer to fix the squeal before I install it.

Squeal/whirring noise in an '05 MCSa
Unfortunately we have to report that we are experiencing the same problem. Car is one month old and it's been out of service 14 days so far. We've taken it back to the dealer 4 or 5 times now and they've tried all the items listed: replacing belt(s), new pulley(s), new supercharger and waterpump all to no avail. They are trying real hard and are very accommodating, but it's something they say they haven't seen and so really aren't sure exactly how to fix it either. Next we are going to look at the transmission.
So one question we have is whether everyone out there who is experiencing this problem has a MCSa or is it occurring on standard transmissions or regular Coopers as well? More information would be helpful to figure out what we all have in common.

MCS standard. My problem has now completely disappeared. High temps and revs for over 100 miles yesterday and no squeal.
I'm also at 3100 miles now. I hope all of you can get the problem fixed because it is really unpleasant to drive around in a new car that sounds like it's going to blow up any minute.
