Sounds good. I will report back by next week. My car is in for repair from wind damage the chipped up everything on the front end...so everything on the front end needs replacing (including both headlamps). My insurance guy said he had no problem ordering the 05 style lamps for me...so I'm doing it.

I will report back on what happens next week.

could not have been more easy

didnt have to buy a thing it was just an even swap!
Can you take some pics of your 05 lights, also can you provide us the part# for both headlamps?

Hopefully I will be able to report back middle of next week. I will try to take a few photos. I will see about part numbers...although I don't think that is entirely necessary. Just tell the parts guy you want the R & L headlights for an 05...they wont have any trouble looking it up.

When I the shop gets them in and I confirm that is working I will report back.

I just got call from the shop saying that while the plugs for the 05 are the same their is a slight difference in the pin configuration...I won't find out if they work or not until a bit later. They said that there is a pin missing from each row of the plug on the factory harness...so they are wondering if they will work or if they do work be lacking some functionality.

4GAZM I PM'd you with some questions.

What part are you looking for exactly? Is the part in question a part of the headlight assembly?

I think I'm having ignition issues. Today one time they both worked, I think one time the passenger was out, and another time the driver was out!

I have to do some digging.....

It Works

I went to the shop today to see my car. They had the headlights in so I got to try them out. SUCCESS. WE ARE GO FOR XENON!!!. I can now confirm along with 4GAZM that the 05 XENONS are Plug-n-Play retrofitable for older MINI's with Xenons.

Thanks for helping my on this 4GAZM.

Yeah the new headlights are really nice with the projectors for the HID's (xenons). Aren't the headlights covered under warranty?? Couldn't you, if you were having problems with the headlights, go to the dealership and request that they be changed, and in that request make sure they swap them for the '05 headlights??

Not likely. Most, if not all, dealers would tell you the same thing they told me...that it is imposible to retrofit 05 Xenons into pre-'05 cars. They say that it requires a software update of the ECU and that they don't have the required software for performing the update. They also are unable to reference the part numbers from the OFFICIAL RETROFIT Pdf (that pdf can be found on Motoringfile).

All the ordering was done by the shop that fixed my car. I will see if the part numbers are on the ticket when I pick my car up. The only parts you need are the headlights...assuming you already have the old style xenons.

Two week check up.

Headlights are still working fabulously. I pulled up to a storefront parking spot the other night to look at my lights in a reflection. I can now verify that the SELF LEVELING feature works properly. I fired the headlights up while sitting in front of the store just to see it work. I can also confirm that the headlight washers work properly.

As best as I can tell there is no lack of functionality in spite of the missing pins in the factory harness. Everything works great!

Try tuning into the thread below or doing a search. I really don't know. Some people say that it is a plug and play swap with the halogens...I thought there was a lot more involved than that. I know the xenons have leveling sensors anchored to both the front and rear suspension components. I would think that at the very least, those sensors would be required for normal operation.

no unfortunatley its not just plug and play ! you need the balast and all the wiring needed with it, so you would at least need the acual headlight assembly the 02 style is an h7 style HID that fits ware the h7 hologen would go normaly with the ignighter attached to it the 05 is alot different in the way it works

if you want you can do a HID convertion with the complete setup
