Anyone know how to change the horn in an MCS?

I cant seem to figure out where the horn is in the engine bay of the MINI. I've been told that its a brown wire somewhere near the fog light assembly, but I just wanted to confirm and find out if anyone has any experience changing their horn...thanks

How is the front bumper attached? Clips, bolts, etc? Are there any particular tools that might be helpful before I start fiddling around? Thanks aokdoug:smile:

I'm interested in doing this exact change. Can you provide more info about what you used for a gorn, where you got it, how you mounted it, etc? Any info would be appreciated.

We could all use a little, "Hey Horn", every once in a while (ok, so I'm a sucker for "info-mercials").

But besides that, I've got a horn that goes, "AH-OOOGA" that I'd like to install. The stock horn the MINI just doesnt sound right - a bit too generic for a car with so much personality.

DONT BUY MOSS MINI'S AIR HORNS!!!!

you can get them for 21 dollars at jc whintey or 18 at harbor freight.

30 bucks for brackets arent worth it.

make one bracket that mounts to the firewall and one that comes off the ground bolt on the frame, it isnt rocket science.....

i love mine, easy splice.

also, to see the easy way to make brackets yourelf, simply print out the instructions from moss's website they have pics of the brackets in plain view.

as far as sound goes..... rent a copy of cannonball run and listen the the horn on the lamborghini, its just like that!!!!

In addition, because the air horns work on air compressed by the, uh, well, the compressor, there's a delay between the time you mash the horn button and the time the noise starts. A certain amount of that delay can't be helped because the compressor doesn't have a holding tank and takes a moment to spool up. You can shorten the delay by keeping the tubing between the compressor and the horns as short as possible.

If you don't that SUV that you're trying to blow your horn at as it runs the stop sign may well be in your lap before your horn blats.

Been there, done that, damn near lost a really nice MBG-GT because of it.

I swapped one side of my horn out last year. I wanted something a little louder and not so American sounding but at the time people weren't too fond of the air horns available. I ended up getting a normal pair of horns, one low and one high and replaced my driver side horn. Now I have both highs and it does get the attention of lane hoggers. It has a higher pitch but not a Japanese higher pitch. I don't know exactly how to describe it. I guess the main thing is that I like it.

I guess those of us that have swapped horns could post a wav file for those looking for ideas on changing their horns out.
