Trouble Reseting Service Interval

I'm trying to reset service indicator after doing my own oil change but I end up with different numbers on display than expected following common method:

Correct method (per several techinal FAQ's)

                      Me...
51A servicemiles appear in display... that's right 51A not 15A
                                    END appears and then
                                    Normal trip and odometer display

I do still have 13000+ miles still on service interval. Long story but I had dealer reset it last time I was in for other items.

                                    What am I doing wrong?

oh man...what was that? I had to reset my service interval also after my 10K mile checkup. The service tech from the MINI dealer was talking me through it, and the same thing happened to me....now what was it that I was doing wrong again? For some reason I think my mistake had to do with the key position...either I was on the first click instead of being on the second, or vica versa. I think that was it, as the push/let go timing thing was not subject to misintepretation. Since you tired position 1, then try position 2 on the key.

Sadly postion 2 was not the answer... It just to trip and total miles as if car was on.

                                    Still looking for answer...

I haven't done mine for awhile, but I remember that it took me three or four tries before I finally got it correct

I could let you know in another 2000 miles though (bout two weeks)

I just did this with the directions in your post and it worked first try. I also had negative time on the interval. I didn't have to wait 5-8 sec. for rst. It popped up right away. Then when the new SI showed up I started the car.

Just hit me. The service maual states "Resetting the SIA is possible only after 20% of the expected fuel usage has been consumed following the previous reset." Hope that does it for you.

the negative time is your brake fluid service counter

it is represented by a clock symbol and a value in days left to change your brake fluid,
as for the 15A it was wrong in the tech doc
for my car anyway its 51A

No, the oil service does go into negative mileage. I think that's what was meant.
