Ignition upgrade.....?
Ignition upgrade.....?
So I am thinking about getting the high-output coil and some new wires. Is the Screaming Demon and Jackson Racing wire package from Mossmini.com a good deal? http://www.mossmini.com/Shop/ViewPro...22&SortOrder=1
I have the 15% pulley and Denso 22's.
Thanks !
edit:changed vendor name

Gee the voided warranty monster raises it's ugly head again. I am well aware of the risks involved with modding. As you can see from my sig I have done a few things. Warranty issues with the parts I have installed is not a problem. I can't see where installing a new coil would void my warranty claim for a blown CV joint (or any other non-effected part).
I am just asking if anyone has installed these parts and if they have worked out for them. I am only looking for a more consistent and powerful spark.
Thanks

I have a similar upgrade from Outmotoring consisting of the same coil (made by Performance Distributors, often sold as a Pilo coil), Kingsborn 9mm wires and Beru colder-range spark plugs. To be honest, I felt no startling enhancements over stock ignition components, but there does seem to be a stronger pull at the top end overall. I attribute this to the slightly longer reach of the Beru plugs mostly, but the stronger spark delivery by the wires (these are magnetic suppression 'solid' core wires compared to the carbon resistance wires that are stock) probably played a part here too. The coil probably helped, though IMO it does not hurt.
My car has a JCW intake, 15% Alta pulley and Milltek exhaust as it's 'major' mods. I consider ignition upgrades a 'secondary' mod; something you do to match enhancements that increase fuel delivery and boost over stock. The stock ignition componentry is more than up to the task of a stock engine. If you want to add a bit of consistency to stock components, start with wires. Anything using a solid wire (usually in a helical configuration) instead of carbon suppression core will deliver a more consistent spark over time. Carbon wires break down slowly.
