HP defined? A little help please
HP defined? A little help please
I need a little help (actually a lot but that costs $140 per hour)
What does
SAE hp mean vs. bhp vs all the others.
and..... what is with the brits? I read GOMINI and the HP claims for their kits is rediculously high. Is this some sort of pound to the dollar conversion?
I searched the threads and did not find the answers so I am asking for some help.
Thanks

I just "googled " this ad read some articles. I still would like some comments if you knowledgeable folks would care to. Mostly it seems that there is some arguement over different dyno results......if you could speak to that as well
Thanks
Thanks
I'm sure the technical guys will jump in soon till then I'll give the brief knowledge I know.
There is BHP which stands for Bench Horse Power and there is WHP which stands for Wheel Horse Power.
When MINI claims the Cooper S has 168 HP they are referring to BHP. BHP is not how much power is actually making it to the wheels. There is "drivetrain loss" which reduces the power. So MINI, and every other auto maker, claims a HP but thats not the reality of the power.
So my 168HP Cooper S may actually only get 148HP to the wheels. In that case the BHP is 168 and the WHP is 148.
WHP measurements are what counts for car enthusiasts, the modders, the ones who really want to know how much power they have. For joblo they want to hear the claims by the manufacturer, aka Bench Horse Power.
Hope that helps a little.
