Exhaust temp

What kind of temperatures should you expect coming out of the engine? What about from the cat back?

I too am searching for the same info. The only temp that really matters is measured within 4" of the head. Beyond that the exhaust cools too fast to provide useful information.

Well, I'm particularly concerned with the cat back exhaust temp because that's where the design effort will be.

Ah, need to know if it's going to melt anything. I was looking at it from a tuning aspect.

I believe its 1100 deg coming out of the eng. anything at or over 1200 your melting pistons. This is what i remember From Tuning 2 strokes years gone by. ( its been about 12 years since i tuned one via exhaust gas temp)

Unfortunately this general rule doesn't apply. My STi runs about 1350f on the top end. The Lightning is happy at 1100f. Hoping to find out the MCS sweet spot.

Do you guys think it's important to monitor the EGT since we're supercharged? I know the turbo guys monitor it closley. If I'm planning on a wideband O2 sensor and I'm running around 12.5 (or whatever it is that everyone says you should run) should I be safe?

Good to monitor either the EGT or the A/F. If you plan heavy mods it can't hurt to do both.
