Not sure this topic has been discussed before, if so sorry for the duplicate posting.

Has anyone else noticed thier brakes squeak when stopping? It's not a loud squeak, just a light squeaking noise... Not like when then pad indicators rub. I have only 2500 miles on my MINI and just wanted to know if this is "normal". Thanks and MERRY CHRISTMAS EVE!!! Paul

Nope, no noise from my brakes. 6500 miles on my MCS.

It may help others relate to your question if you indicate what model car you have and the type of suspension/wheels.

Good luck, and happy holidays to you!

I've got squeek. I've had squeek for a while now, but figured it would work its way out. Hmmm? Does make me wonder. Slightly annoying, but she stills stops on a dime! I've got my 10K appointment for Friday, so I might ask about it then.

S with 7,000 kms

YES it does squeak but only under light braking. it sounds like the ware indicator but obviously not. Apart from that the brakes work great so i had just made a note top myself to chat to the service guys next time i was by there.

Cooper wih 9800 miles. Squeals occasionally - assumed it was a normal disk brake thing.

They did, but one day as I left my garage I felt the slightest little bump. When I got out to see what it was I saw a tiny flat mouse and they haven't squeaked since. Merry Christmas. Ron.

Paul,

I have about 2700 miles on the MCS and don't have any squeaks.

What I have noticed after driving 5 or 6 different customer cars and mine, is that just about every S feels different. The brakes, the clutch, the shifter - odd. They all work, and work well, though. Just thought it was interesting and I'm thinking while I'm writing (always a dangerous thing).

With the Porsche brakes, we used to grind about a 45 degree angle around the edges of the pad to prevent the squealing. This was a VERY small area - just the very edge and down only about a millimeter. I would bet that if you pull your pads and do this it would fix it. It can be done by hand, but takes a quick second on the bench grinder.

Randy

3300miles
The brakes squeak sometimes when it's really cold and dry (outside) after I parked my MINI for a few hours and sometimes in the morning, maybe because of the brakes are dirty, too much brake dust.

Let's see if they still squeak around 5000 miles...

I just came across this post. I seem to have acquired a light squeak at about 1500 miles.

MCS, 2002, 1800 Miles, and YES my brakes squeak.

Seems like it only happens below about 25 degrees F. Didn't notice it before this week, but today it dropped to 16 degrees.

After leaving work, and the car parked outside all day, the brakes squeak.

After leaving this evening to coach basketball, she had been in the garage for about 3 hours, where it's about 35 degrees. Didn't squeak a bit.

Must be related to temperature.

I've been paying a little more attention to this lately and think that it might have more to do with moisture than temperature - and more specifically, the fine layer of oxidation that can develop on surface of the rotor. Just a hunch.

my brakes don't squeek @ 11K miles...
now...i hope they continue to NOT squeek...since i posted this

btw ...i do notice the following about my brakes....
if you brake at 90+mph.....strange things happen...
-a- nothing noticeable... this is not strange but a good thing
-b- the car pulls to either the left or right...horribly...for a second then tracks forward again...this one IS strange and NOT a good thing

Peace,
D

yeah dude, mine started squeaking around 5000 miles and now they persist at 5700 miles. its not too bad, the brakes are still gnarly, but i'm gonna have it checked anyway.
