Dreaded HPFP Issues & Ridiculous Pricing

Hello everyone! I'm a new Mini owner, I got my 2011 Cooper S with 124k miles just last month. I had done a fair bit of research and checked over (almost) everything, the only thing I failed to assess was the HPFP... Fast forward to a couple weeks ago when I went to start the car and was presented with the following:
-misfiring and rough idling while cold, smooths out once it warms up
-P15DF code
-strong smell of fuel
Given these symptoms I'm fairly confident it's the HPFP. The problem I'm running into is the insane prices for these things, it seems like just a few years ago they were half what they cost now. It is insane, one from Rock Auto is $1100, one from ECS Tuning is $1100, the most reasonable one I've been able to find is from FCP Euro for $779, and that still sounds ridiculous. I just am not too sure what to do at this point as I don't have $800+ to fork out for one of these right now. I knew Mini ownership wasn't going to be cheap, but I didn't expect it to catch up so soon. Does anybody know of any more cost effective alternatives? I'm quite tempted to gamble with a used one off of eBay. I've also seen this guy recommended around before, does anybody have any experience purchasing one through him? https://www.hpfp-mini-cooper-rebuilt.com/
Forgot to mention, the HPFP was replaced on the vehicle in 2019 at 81k miles just incase that matters.

If it were me, I'd get the one from FCP Euro. OEM PSA. I've heard too many horror stories about aftermarket / rebuild pumps only lasting a short time before having issues resurface. If you plan on keeping the car for a few more years (at least), invest in the right parts.

Does sound like a faulty HPFP, but given the expense, it may be worth ruling out other possibilities...

For example, can you read the fuel rail pressure with your scan tool?

P15DF

unfortunately mine can’t do that, though, I can probably get somebody I know that has one to take a look.

I forgot to mention that the fuel pump is making a lot of noise, when it’s running it makes a quite loud “gloug gloug” sound, I’m not sure if that’s normal or not given that I don’t have a reference as to what it’s supposed to sound like.

I get what you’re saying, I just just don’t have that much to fork over, $836 after tax and shipping is a lot, especially right now. If I could get a year or two out of a cheaper pump I’d be perfectly happy with that, it would give me time to put more money aside for repairs.

I’ve heard good reviews about the the rebuilt ones I linked, they come warrantied and from what I’ve heard the guy is good to work with. I wanted to see if anybody here had any experience buying from him.

I honestly don’t know how long I’m going to keep the car, I go through cars like I go through water, this is my 5th car in a year. I do quite like this one, way more than I liked any of the others, so I’ll probably keep it for a while.

When you say "fuel pump is making a lot of noise", do you mean LPFP or HPFP?
