How shallow does the 36mm socket need to be? I have only found one that is 1.5 inches shallow. Does it need to be shorter than that to get access to the oil filter? Thanks.

 

I use a Craftsman 1/2'' drive 12 point 36 mm socket it measure abot 1 3/4'' part # 44248. Price $6.99. Works fine for me. :smile: :smile: :smile: :smile:

You know I searched all over the place for a 36mm 1/2" socket and do you think I could find one. I went to all the fancy automotive tool suppliers and not one could get me one. Only 3/4". My torque wrench is 1/2" and I wasn't going to fork out about $100cad for a decent 3/4" driver let alone a 3/4" torque wrench, whatever that costs! Then, a couple of weeks ago I was in my local Sears store in Guelph, in the "toy" department, when, blamo, there is a 1/2" 36mm socket! normal depth! $10cad! Needless to say I bought it on the spot! Great deal.

The moral of the story, look for the easy solution first. You don't have to go to specialty stores to fine specialty tools.

 

I've actually hunted down the more unusual stuff in auto parts stores. What limited stuff they carry is specific to auto applications, and most people have the normal range of sockets, etc. Things like 14-17mm hex head sockets, large sockets, specialty tools. It's not good quality, but functional. I already fortunately had the 36mm from a bike project from Sears. :smile:

I finally hunted down the oil filters and I'm changing the oil this weekend.

Thanks for that too! It'll be a very interesting time that's for sure. I've been racing bikes for 21 years and not once did I ever think I'd be going to Colorado Springs to go to the Olympic Training Center for Track racing. I can't wait.
