Brakes not releasing

Hi all, I have a 2008 Clubman S and sometimes (especially after the car hasn't been driven for a while) the left front and the right rear brakes won't release. Usually I can shut the engine off and apply the brakes a couple of times and when I start the car back up the brakes are realeased. I'm the original owner and car only has 62k miles on it and on the original brakes. Also the car is a 6speed manual with DSC and Hill assist. I don't think it's a sticking caliper because they're diagonal from one another. Any ideas? It's not feasable for me to take it to the dealer because my closest one is 400 miles away.

If brake fluid has not been replaced (fresh fluid put in reservoir and blead from each brake caliper) within last 3-yeras. I'd suggest you start with that first.

Fwiw - I had all brakes stay engaged after a hard stop. In my case I think old brake fluid was causing issue with ABS module. Was able to get brakes to release after pressing pedal hard a few times. A good brake fluid flush/replacement resolved my issue.

If you live in the rust belt it could be bad calipers or they are going bad. I did some work on an 09 clubman, and I had to replace all 4 calipers, 2 rubber lines, due to either a seized pin or piston. On my former 09 clubman, when replacing the rubber lines with SS lines, in the rear I had seized fittings on the hard lines. I found a donor car that didn’t see salt and swapped those out. Might be worth taking wheel off and inspecting everything.

Whether you think its related or not, I would still suggest pulling the calipers and checking that the pistons are not getting tight, and that all the slide guide pins are loose and free. Also, wouldn't be a bad idea to flush the fluid through really good.

I'm going to do a brakes fluid flush to see if that helps. It has been probably 5 year or so since I've done that. I'm not in the rust belt and I don't drive the car in the winter. It's stored in the winter in a semi-heated garage.
