My 02 ran to the store fine, I came out it started up then died and never started agian.Fuel pump is working just no spark. Im thinking the Crankshaft position sensor, might be the cause it has 200K on it...The car is at a friend's house now.Ill be dragging it back to my place this weekend. And install the Crank sensor. I replaced 2 relays in the engine bay thats it I have a OBD 2 code reader and a multi meter. When i get the car home ill start checkin fuses.I need to see if the injectors are pulsing ( gotta learn how to check that)and confirm there is no spark. I was in a hurry when i checked. A little bit of starting fluid should tell me if there's spark or not.Ive read a few posts about the relay on the passenger side fuse panel. So ill probably dig into that part as well. Ill definitely update this thread to help others who run in to this issue.

 

If everything is working but no crank. More than likely it is due to low voltage. This will cause the ews to loose sync with the key. You can get a copy of inpa an a dcan cable. Then you can resync your key to the ews.

 

The relay would be an issue if you had a gen 2 mini. Not an issue on a Gen 1.

 

The battery is only a few months old. The car Cranks all day just doesn't fire. While It cranks the tach moves up a little bit but the car wont start.

 

I bet your key lost sync.

 

What wouldI look for to figure that out? trouble shooting steps... im going to dive into it this weekend. my last project didnt have a bunch of electrical crap lol

 

Would verify fuel pump runs momentarily when you put the key to "ON" otherwise could be pump or relay. Also any codes?

 

UPDATE..
got the car home. Fuel pump runs when the key is turned on i can hear it. The car will fire up on starting fluid for a second or two then dies. So i know there is spark. Im still waiting for the crank position sensor in the mail. Any ideas?

 

Replaced crank sensor no change.
hooked a lite bulb to the plug that goes to the injector......no pulse. It didn't blink once. So whats the next step for no injector pulse? It will fire on starting fluid but quickly dies.
cam sensor? Or ECU stuff....

 

You EWS is not sync with key. It will shut off fuel pulse to injectors. Get a copy of inpa an a dcan. Resync you key a you will be good to go.

 

I have only one key for it, no battery in it just a little chip.
How would i go about Resyncing the key to my car? Tow it to a shop or is it something i can do at home with laptop?

The small little chip is what is synced to you EWS. Mini coopers are super sensitive to voltage. It can happen with out warning. This is a link to Amazon to order the cable.

You can get another type on Amazon. As long as it is a dcan cable with the slide switch.

Not much of an update. Ive been working with @shrevemini. On The car. Installing different programs on my laptop trying to reset the immobilizer. Pretty sure that's the problem. The car had trouble unlocking the door with the key before this happened which leads me to an EWS issue.
right now the program on laptop is not talking to the car, not sure if it's the car-cable- or the program setting on my laptop.
We are still messing with it. It would be nice if there was someone local that could come over with a known good set-up to plug into the car to clarify if it's the car or my cable/laptop thats the problem. Im in San Diego Ca 92065.
My very last move will be sending out the Key-EWS-DCM to the ecu pros.
I did remove the seats and cleaned the carpet and the rest of the inside while it sits. Any suggestions are welcome....

 

Late to the party, but did you by any chance recently change the fuel filter?

 

No i have not.
I can hear the fuel pump turn on and have pressure at the fuel rail but no injector pulse.....
