2006 MINI S with 170k miles.
This mprning, will not run.
All lights with key on, but just 3 clicks (solenoid?) no crank.
Full battery charge,
Hate to replace starter if there is another cause.
Thoughts or suggestions?

 

Check the ground cable in the engine compartment. If it's loose or a corroded connection, the car won't start.

 

Kinda sounds like the starter took a dump

 

+1 for ground cables - starting in the battery compartment with the negative cable - but also check heat shield and make sure you don't have arcing from a loose one. But, at 170K could very well be the starter itself.
