Mini not starting
Mini not starting
I have an r53 mini s. Car is completely stock. Just bought it from my neighbor its been seating for 7 years. I just put a new battery and new fuel pump , i removed all the old fuel and cleaned the tank. Added new fuel and car wont start. It does start with starting fluid, but when it wears off it dies down. So not getting fuel. Checked the fuel line coming from the tank and fuel does come out. Any help will be appreciated
Have you checked for codes with a reader? Where does the fuel come out? At the fuel rail? The injectors? Are you sure you seated the gasket at the fuel pump and filter correctly? The car won't run if you didn't. Simple thing: Check for corrosion and tightness of the ground wire in the engine compartment. If it's a bad connection, the car won't start.
Sometime R53 can't be started if the battery was removed for a long time.I advice you to do resync ECU , can use for that a cheap INPA diagnosis.Same thing when the battery is disconnected many times due to a defective steering pump -When steering pump run with key off.Need to resync ECU .

You can bleed it via the Schrader valve on the end of the intake manifold.
Can also check fuel pressure there (gauge to Schrader valve) after the pump momentarily spools up with key turned to "ON" but not "START", should be 55 psi.

Sitting 7 years... I would hazard a guess the injectors are clogged. You can remove these and take them to a shop that can clean then flow test them to ensure they are all good and flow the same amount of fuel. Of you can replace them. (Some recommend new injectors be at least flow tested before installation.) But the fuel lines must be clear of any bad old fuel residue or you could clog the cleaned injectors or clog the new injectors.
