2e1c code after timing chain
2e1c code after timing chain
I replaced the timing chain today on my 2008 MCS. I had the negative battery terminal disconnected while doing the repair. Got the repair done and everything put back together. Put key fob in and tried to start. Click.... check engine light.
I scanned at got 2e1c code. BSD message from alternator. Everything was working before.
Scanned the Comfort Access System and found these codes
A0B4 CAS: engine start, starter, operation
A0C1 CAS: Output, terminal 50
A0C2 CAS: Output, Terminal 50 RS
Can clear the second and third but not the first one. Is this the disable code? Was this from being disconnected from battery for so long?
Any thoughts?

Well after lots of googling and figuring out that the CAS codes weren't causing the issue but simply reporting that the starter isn't working when the car told it to.
I found that I was getting a 12v signal on the output terminal 50 to the solenoid, but the starter wasn't working. I had good 12 on the other side of the solenoid from the battery. When I checked for continuity on my ground from a chassis point to the frame of the starter I didn't have it. Started working my way back and found that my ground from chassis to the motor mount that I removed during the timing chain replacement was not creating a good enough ground. I did some sanding on the connection points and used some dielectric grease. Reconnected and had good ground on the engine.
Engine started right up and no codes. Moral of the story....
If you remove a ground make sure it goes back with good continuity.

Thank you for this thread, I created an account just to comment. I had the same issue and it turned out to be the ground on the upper right side motor mount.
If anyone else finds this thread. Just remove the passenger headlight, that will get you easy access to that ground.
