R60 2DAO code after timing chain replace
2DAO code after timing chain replace
My mechanic has finally finished replacing the timing chain and cam gears on my 2012 Countryman S ALL4. During test drives, the check engine light indicated this code: 2DAO, with this explanation: "Inlet camshaft angle offset w/respect to crankshaft outside tolerance." Is there any wisdom/experience with this code? The engine performance itself is normal during test drives. Mike.62.Wollman
UPDATE and Omitted Info:
I replaced the clutch and flywheel 1.5 years ago. When my mechanic went to lockdown the flywheel, the hole that marks tdc wasn't there, so they had to lock the fly wheel where it was through the starter opening. The re-assembly did NOT correct for chain stretch for this reason. They think this may be both cause and solution for the code... any "clutch changers" out there with this experience?

I don't have personal experience with that code, but my gut says something not lined up correctly during the timing chain installation, or bolts were reused and something slipped, or VANOS solenoid isn't working
Nik, you aren't far off: See my update... the lack of an original flywheel prevented locking the engine at TDC, thus not allowing for chain stretch. The new chain was installed with the cams out of ideal tolerance. They are adjusting for that now and will call me soon... I hope!

Let me guess, you have a JMTC flywheel installed? Without a flywheel locating pin hole, lining the cams and crank into position because a task in futility. Hopefully, your mechanic can get it sorted out, otherwise, the transmission might need to come out.
I'll second what njaremka said.
These engines are very sensitive to timing, even a degree or two is a big deal. Without pinning the crank I don't know how you will ever get it in time, and those errors indicate it's out.

Also slight correction, the hole doesn't pin at tdc. It locks it at 90 degrees so all the pistons are at the same position.
I guess you might be able to use some dowels through the spark plug holes and line them up. Might work....
