R50 Hatch ABS sensor question
OK, this may not even be an issue, but I can't find an answer *anywhere* on line.
Have a 2003 Base Hatch, with, of course, the brake Trifecta. This alone does not concern me greatly, as I'm no huge fan of ABS anyway... but since I was going through the rear end anyway, and the diagnosis says right rear sensor is bad, what the hell, I'm in here...
What I found on both sides, is grooving from the rubber tone ring on the ends of the sensors - HMMM - doesn't seem right... Cleaned and painted the things, and got out the new sensors, and guess what? They bottom out on the bearing race/tone ring! They seem to be about 1mm deeper than the hole! Just like the old ones! Same length.
Now for the question: Is there supposed to be an air gap between the rear ABS sensor and the bearing/tone ring? The front ones have some clearance between the flat side of the sensor and the ring, but the rear ones want to just mash in there, which also left a curve in the old sensors.
I would happily shim these buggers to whatever is required, but don't relish the idea of just jamming them in and tossing away my money.
