reset vanos adapt. - how important?
reset vanos adapt. - how important?
My daughter has a 2008 Justa (manual) 117000 miles. While driving she suddenly lost power. She pulled over, shut off and restarted the car. It ran, but didn't seem to have full power.
OBD reader says code 2845. This seems to be the exhaust vanos solenoid. It's easy enough to swap out. My question is that I have repeatedly read that the adaptations need to be reset afterwards. I don't have a tool to do that. I read the instructions at Pelican Parts for changing the vanos solenoid and they don't mention adaptations. Can I just disconnect the battery to reset the ECU? Should I just swap the part and not worry about it? If it's out of spec will they eventually adjust themselves?

For what it’s worth, I have a 2012 Clubman S. I had replaced both intake and exhaust solenoids, and never reset anything - didn’t even disconnect the battery. Swapped out the solenoids, and fired the car right up, no issues.
